Sometimes things are next level and you need help in a hurry. You’re not looking for a counselor to be your new best friend. You’re looking for someone to help you triage what’s going on and stop the bleeding. I can do that with you. Methods like solution-focused therapy zero in on solving problems in super practical ways. And sometimes you just need objective advice that says, “No, you’re not crazy. And here are two or three things to think about.”
Honestly, counseling practitioners often split their philosophies between being more problem-oriented or more people-oriented. That makes no sense to me. You’re a person. You want help with problems. So I try to see both–you as the person and the problems you’re trying to solve.
